Wexford's Shane Tomkins will be out of action until April following ankle surgery.

Tomkins has not featured for the county at all this year as he struggled with a persistent ankle injury that has kept him sidelined.

However, the Askamore clubman is now on the road to recovery following the surgery and Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald revealed that he should be back by April.

"Shane has had the ankle surgery. He will not be unavailable until April," Fitzgerald told the Wexford People.

Tomkins joins a long list of players on the treatment table, although a number of those players are set to return in the coming weeks.
