Martin ready for biggest managerial challenge

New Offaly manager Kevin Martin knows that expectations will be high in his native county following his appointment.

Martin was named as the man to lead the Faithful County's senior hurlers in 2018 and the former All-Ireland winner brings a wealth of experience to the role having managed his native club Tullamore, Westmeath and Laois side Clough-Ballacolla.

Success has followed Martin wherever he has gone, but as he admitted to the Midland Tribune, a big challenge awaits in trying to turn the fortunes of the Offaly hurlers around.

"Yeah, it is my own county. There is a lot of expectation when you manage your own county. We are very optimistic, but also very realistic. It is a massive challenge, but one I am looking forward to," said Martin.

He added: "I am an Offaly man and it is hard to look at it the last couple of years, especially considering where we had been. We are all Offaly people and we want to see them doing well.

"Everyone is going to have to get behind one another from the players, management, county board and everyone to try and improve the situation."
