Michael Duignan has said he’s relishing the challenge ahead of him after being elected as the new chairman of the Offaly county board.

The two-time All-Ireland winner defeated Tommy Byrne by 76-62 in a vote taken at Tuesday night’s annual convention in Tullamore.

Speaking after the victory, Duignan said that meeting with every club has “inspired and motivated” him as he gets set to take on his new role.

“I’m looking forward to working with the incoming management committee, the county board, the Offaly clubs and our schools…everybody else, all our stakeholders. I just now want to unite Offaly GAA after this challenging campaign,” he told the Irish Independent.

“Meeting every club in Offaly has inspired me and motivated me for the future of Offaly GAA. The response we got, the people we met, the ideas people have and the passion there for the future is fantastic.”
