Kieran Callaghan has been elected Cavan county board’s new chairman following last night’s annual convention at The Hotel Kilmore.

The Denn clubman defeated Killygarry opponent Paddy Sheanon by 103 votes to 75 in a secret ballot. The total valid poll was 179 votes, with one spoiled vote.

Callaghan, who previously held the postion of vice-chairman of the board, succeeds Gerry Brady after the Gowna man had served out his full term.

The other major change at the top table saw Ballyhaise’s Susan Brady elected as PRO after defeating Sean Smith (Denn) by 124 votes to 55.
