Laois and St Brigid's football star John O'Loughlin is transferring back to the club he began his career with.

O'Loughlin, who has been named at midfield on the Laois team to face Offaly in the opening round of the O'Byrne Cup tomorrow, joined the Blanchardstown club in 2011 from Mountmellick, but has opted instead to rejoin Rosenallis, who he represented at underage level and who his father Larry played with before him.

The former Laois captain, who continues to work and live in Dublin, told Laois Today that he had decided to join Rosenallis before they won the Laois IFC title this year.

“It hasn’t been the easiest decision to make because Mountmellick are a great club with some great people involved and a number of them had a very positive influence on my career. I’ve a lot of friends there and I don’t like disappointing them. But I’m just following my gut instinct at this time and I think it’s the best thing to do," he explained.

“I made up my mind early in the year after a couple of years of reflection that I was coming back to play with Rosenallis regardless of status. It’s where I’m from, it’s where my home is, it’s where my family live and I want to give something back."
