Dublin manager Jim Gavin after his side's triumph over Kerry

Dublin county board secretary John Costello has described out-going manager Jim Gavin as “an absolute titan” when it comes to GAA in the capital.

Writing in his annual report for county convention, Costello paid tribute to the 48-year-old after steering the Dubs to a historic five-in-a-row success this past September prior taking the decision to bring down on his remarkable tenure last week.

"His teams play in a brilliant fashion that is true to the best aspects of Gaelic football," Costello wrote.

"Jim occasionally referenced the heroes past who wore the blue jersey. His respect for those who have gone before was very genuine and he felt it was the job of the incumbent to 'pass the jersey on' having done his utmost to improve it.

"Jim and his management team most certainly achieved that and so much more. When Jim would reference previous Dublin greats he often used the aphorism of 'standing on the shoulders of giants'.

"Without doubt after a playing, coaching and managing career dating back to when he represented the county at minor grade, he is an absolute titan of Dublin GAA.

"On behalf of Dublin GAA, I wish to express my great gratitude to the management and support team and I wish them all every success in the future."
