Eire Og manager Joe Murphy has revealed that winning a provincial title as a manager was never on his radar.

But, the former Eire Og player who won five Leinster club SFC medals is now just 60-plus minutes away from achieving that feat as he prepares his charges to take on Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda’s in the provincial final on Sunday.

Even now, Murphy told the Carlow Nationalist that it is still not high on his list of priorities despite being so close to doing so.

“It is still not a priority. To me it was a focus on getting Eire Og to be a force in Carlow, putting together back-to-back wins in the championship and feeling strong every year we go into the championship,” said Murphy.

It was pressing the reset button and taking a step back to see where we were going wrong. That was the brief coming in. It was game by game after that.”
