Laois manager John Sugrue is keeping his fingers crossed that two of his most experienced players sample more championship football this year.

Both Mark Timmons and Colm Begley have missed the last two games against Meath and Derry through injury.

The O’Moore County face Offaly in the third round of the qualifiers this Saturday evening, which looks like coming too soon for the players concerned.

However, Sugrue told the Leinster Express that he has not given up hope yet of both players featuring in the championship again this year.

“Colm has tried it during the week and just wasn’t fully comfortable on it,” said the Kerry native.

“We’ve got to assess that and see how we go. Timmo’s break was significant at the time. We’ve got to maybe just take a look again, but if he can get back into a little bit of training then who knows.”
