Donaghy backs Durcan to regain Donegal place

Kieran Donaghy has backed Paul Durcan to force his way back into the Donegal reckoning.

An All-Ireland winner with Donegal and Ballyboden St Enda's, Durcan has returned to county training after a four-year absence and Donaghy feels he still has a lot to offer. Writing in the Irish Daily Star, Donaghy has praised Durcan for the manner in which he bounced back from the mistake that gifted him a goal in Kerry's 2014 All-Ireland SFC final win over the Tir Chonaill men.

"He hasn't played inter-county football in four years, but I think he can offer them plenty," the former Kingdom full forward stated.

"Durcan is still relatively young for a goalkeeper. He's 18 months younger than both Stephen Cluxton and David Clarke.

"We had our moment in the 2014 final and there was a reason why I studied Durcan so closely. His kick-outs are brilliant and there's no-one better at disguising the intention in the run-up. For the one I intercepted, he half-kicked the groun and I just took two steps ahead of my man.

"What says it all about Durcan was that he bounced back to have one of his best seasons the following year. And he went on to play a massive part in Ballyboden St Enda's winning a club All-Ireland.

"It wouldn't surprise me at all if Paul forced his way back into the reckoning with Donegal."
