The tradition of allowing the county champions select the captain of the county side is to remain in Kerry.

The subject came up for debate at Monday night’s County Convention and chairman Tim Murphy told the Irish Independent: “There was no appetite for change so we will not be revisiting this again for some time.

“It was only a feeler we were putting out but it's clear that clubs want to stick with tradition and the debate is over.”

Meanwhile, Dermot ‘Weeshie’ Lynch stepped down after 10 years of service to the board as treasurer.

Tom Keane from the St Mary’s Club was elected as his successor after defeating Aileen Stack of Moyvane by 152 votes to 86.
