McCabe expecting a battle against Down

Cavan selector Aidan McCabe says Down will be desperate to pick up two points when they travel to Kingspan Breffni in two days' time.

The Breffni men currently sit top of Division 2 with seven points, while their Mourne counterparts are on four, and McCabe knows that the 2/1 visitors on Saturday will have plenty of incentive as a relegation dogfight is set to ensue in the final three rounds.

"Down had a good win against Louth at the start when all teams were equal, Cork turned them over, they got a slippery goal three quarters of the way through the game," the Cootehill clubman told The Anglo-Celt.

"Then they had a fantastic win over Roscommon, played Roscommon off the park but Clare caught them the last day, got off to a good start and never really let Down get back into it.

"So they've been up and down, no pun intended, but they will know that they are coming to Kingspan Breffni and a win puts them back into the mix and will pull us back into it.

"They know the alternative as well, a defeat for them would mean they are scrapping to stay above the bottom two and that's motivation enough for them."
