Michael Carroll has withdrawn from the Donegal senior football squad - the third player to do so in recent weeks.

Carroll has followed Eoin McHugh and Peter Boyle into intercounty exile, according to The Irish Independent. The former left the camp in late January to focus on his studies, while the latter flew the nest earlier this month.

Under Rory Gallagher, Gaoth Dobhair clubman Carroll was a regular for the Tir Chonail men in the league last year and started their first three championship games. But his opportunities have been limited so far this season under new manager Declan Bonner and he has reportedly opted to step away.
