Peter Boyle believes his decision to withdraw from the Donegal panel will cost him an Ulster SFC medal.

However, the Ballyshannon goalkeeper says he wasn't prepared to sit on the bench and will instead concentrate on playing club football with Aodh Ruadh for the rest of the season.

"I could have sat on the bench and got an Ulster medal, but for me it would not have counted as anything," he said in an interview with the Irish News.

"I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Donegal can win an Ulster title, just look at that full forward line. It is unbelievable and the management team as well is second to none. There is no stone left unturned between Declan and all his team.

"They are all very good and every training session you learn something new and if you have a flaw in your game, it will be rectified.

"The hardest thing about leaving for me was that I am leaving behind a lot of friends. You get a good rapport with the lads. A lot of the boys have contacted me."

Boyle started Donegal's Allianz League games against Galway and Dublin, and came on for the injured Mark Anthony McGinley against Kerry. However, St. Eunan's Shaun Patton started ahead of him in last Sunday week's win over Kildare and was also expected to be given the nod for yesterday's postponed game against Tyrone.
