Morgan welcomes competition from O'Neill

Tyrone's Niall Morgan

Niall Morgan believes the competition he faces from Mickey O'Neill for the Tyrone number one jersey will make both of them better goalkeepers.

Mickey Harte has been rotating his goalkeepers in the McKenna Cup with O'Neill having started last Sunday's semi-final win over Fermanagh. With the final of the pre-season competition having been postponed until the middle of next month, Morgan - who was first-choice last season - is in pole position to start the Red Hands' Allianz League Division 1 opener against Galway on Sunday week.

"You just have to accept it," he said of the rotation policy in the Irish News.

"Obviously everybody wants to play every game, but it's good that both of us are getting plenty of game time. I suppose that's the important thing for us as goalkeepers getting to the final, because it gets us the extra game.

"The two of us get on really well. It would be different if you were saying I didn't like him, but we do get on really well, and it's good to push each other on, and we're probably better goalkeepers because of it."
