McCartan: 13-week lay off won't help us

Fulham Irish manager Gregory McCartan admits that they are 'up against it' when they take on Corofin in Sunday's All-Ireland club SFC quarterfinal at Ruislip.

The London champions were always going to be underdogs for this fixture and their cause has not been helped by the fact that the original fixture in early December was postponed due to bad weather.

That means the Exiles have had to wait 13 weeks between the London SFC final and this game, which further reduces their chances of causing an upset.

McCartan told the Irish Post that despite all this, his charges have been working hard since Christmas and he couldn't have asked anymore of them ahead of the game.

"We're under no illusions of the challenge facing us against Corofin. They're joint favourites to win the All-Ireland for a reason and this long lay off has not helped our cause," said the former All-Ireland winner.

"But all we've asked of the players is to give total commitment and they've met that call all year. We need to stay within touching distance by half time because if we're chasing the game early on then it's going to be very difficult. We'll give it our best shot on the day and hope it's good enough to get us over the line.

"We're down in numbers as we've lost three players since the championship final who have all emigrated to Australia but we just have to get on with it. That's just part of managing in London, we lost ten players last year so we have to make the most of what we have."
