Hurling Legends team surprises
October 01, 2005
With only two Kilkenny men making the Guinness Hurling Legends team, there were a few raised eyebrows at the presentation although there were plenty of happy Clare and Tipperary people at the event.
The team was selected from players over the course of the ten years that Guinness has sponsored the hurling championship since 1995. Votes were texted and emailed in from the public and perhaps a lack of willingness of Kilkenny people to vote explains the scarcity of cats on the final team.
DJ Carey and Henry Shefflin are the only two from the black and ambers to make the final cut while Clare and Tipperary have four each.
Cork have three while Galway and Offaly have one apiece.
The team in full is: Brendan Cummins; Ollie Canning, Brian Lohan, Diarmuid O'Sullivan; Brian Whelehan, Sean McMahon, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín; Colin Lynch, Tommy Dunne; Jamesie O'Connor, John Leahy, Henry Shefflin; Eoin Kelly, DJ Carey, Joe Deane.
