Mid Board chairman Joe Kennedy officially launched this year's senior hurling championship recently.

The quarterfinals are down for decision this weekend and Kennedy believes that the club scene will be very competitive this year.

"We are delighted to at last be getting the mid-championship underway. While we are all disappointed with the exit of the Tipp hurlers in the All-Ireland semi-final, the focus turns pretty sharply to the club scene and in mid-Tipperary we have a very, very competitive championship.

"The pairings have been known for a long time now and the teams have had plenty of opportunity to prepare and to size each other up. It should be a great championship."

The action throws in tonight (Friday) as Clonakenny take on Loughmore-Castleiney in Templemore at 7pm. Then on Saturday, Holycross will host a double header as Upperchuch-Drombane play JK Brackens at 4pm and this is followed at 6pm by the meeting of Drom & Inch and Thurles Sarsfields.

Sunday's game is at 2pm in Boherlahan and sees Moycarkey-Borris clash with Holycross-Ballycahill.
