Galway and Tipperary did battle at Croke Park today for a place in the 2017 All-Ireland SHC final.

The Premier County went in as defending champions but the Tribesmen had been earmarked all year as the side most likely to relieve them of the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

This was the third major meeting of these two high-quality teams inside twelve months. Tipp won a pulsating All-Ireland semi-final last August (2-19 to 2-18), while the westerners turned the tables in the league final in April (3-21 to 0-14). It's also their third successive semi-final - in 2015, it was the Tribe who won by a point, 0-26 to 3-16. Who would prevail this time around? Again, just a single point separated the teams at the final whistle!

Galway were also involved in the curtain-raiser, locking horns with Kilkenny for a place in the All-Ireland MHC decider.
