Thrilled Tipperary manager Liam Kearns has hailed yesterday's shock results in the All-Ireland qualifiers as "a fantastic day for Munster".

Tipp and Clare each booked their place into the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals for the first time after overcoming Derry and Roscommon respectively.

Speaking after his side's 1-21 to 2-17 win at Breffni Park, Kearns described it as being a proud day for the southern province.

"What a fantastic day for Munster," he told the Irish Sun afterwards.

"Clare have been down in Division Four and so have Tipperary, so I'm thrilled for both of them. They deserve their day in the sun. Munster must now be considered the strongest province with possibly four teams making the quarter-finals.

"So maybe the pundits will have to revise their options a little bit!"
