Former Tipperary hurler James Woodlock says that Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long would have been a huge asset to the Premier County.

Long is set to lead the line for Martin O'Neill's side against Belgium this afternoon at the Stade de Bordeaux, as the Republic look to try and secure qualification to the knock-out stages of Euro 2016, and Woodlock believes that the Southampton player would have been destined for a brilliant career which ever sport he'd chosen.

"Shane has serious pace and that allows him to be a great finisher," Woodlock told RTE's Countrywide program.

"He has a great ability to leap from the ground which is good for the sport he is in.

"It is a massive loss that Shane has gone to play soccer he would have been a massive addition to Tipperary hurling.

"We played two Munster finals, one where we beat Cork and another where we lost. We then lost two All-Ireland semi-finals unfortunately."
