Tipperary 3-20

Cork 1-15

Fourteen points (12 frees) from the stick of Aidan McCormack helped Tipperary to an impressive victory over holders Cork in the Munster IHC quarter-final at Semple Stadium.

The Thurles Sarsfields sharpshooter was in unerring form, while two quick-fire goals in the second half from Mark Russell - son of former All-Ireland football final referee Paddy - also proved crucial to the outcome as Tipp set up a semi-final date with Limerick on June 19.

Ahead by 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time, the William Maher-managed Premier extended their lead to 1-11 to 0-8 on the restart when goalkeeper Brian Hogan netted a penalty after Russell was fouled. Not to be outdone, Cork 'keeper Declan Dalton crashed home a penalty himself in the 37th minute as Cork reduced the leeway to four points.

But Russell's double in the 49th and 50th minutes put the result beyond doubt.
