Tipperary star forward Lar Corbett has retired from inter-county hurling.

The 34-year-old Thurles Sarsfields ace won two All-Ireland senior hurling championship titles with Tipp, along with six Munster championships and two National League crowns.

He made his senior inter-county debut in 2000 and became a permanent fixture in the team for more than a decade, helping the Premier County to Liam MacCarthy Cup triumphs in 2001 and 2010.

Corbett's hat-trick in Tipp's defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final of 2010 helped him to land a second successive All-Star while he also making a clean sweep of the three Hurler of the Year awards.

The following year's Munster final saw him score 4-4 in victory against Waterford and by the end of the season he would collect his third All-Star award at left corner-forward, despite Tipp's All-Ireland final defeat to the Cats.

In early 2012, he announced his retirement from inter-county hurling before reversing his decision and returning for the Premier men in time for the summer's championship, when he helped his native county to a fourth Munster crown in five years.

This year saw Corbett introduced as a substitute in Tipp's Munster final win over the Deise County, which meant he'd collect his sixth provincial medal.

Corbett is the holder of six Tipperary senior championship medals with Sarsfields, whilst he also tasted Munster success with his native club on one occasion in 2012.

He becomes the fourth Tipperary player in a week to announce his retirement from inter-county hurling, with James Woodlock, Conor O'Mahony and Shane McGrath having all called time on their careers recently.
