TIPPERARY LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to Brian Borus who won the Horse & Jockey Senior Championship Final on Wednesday night last. Brian Borus started the stronger with a goal from Amy Sweeney in the opening minute and the scoring continued with a further eight points to Cappawhite's three points. The second half saw Cappawhite start stronger but they could not reduce the deficit, the game finishing Brian Borus 1-12 Cappawhite 0-11. Afterwards, the Chairperson Biddy Ryan presented the Joe McGrath Memorial Cup to Aoife O'Dwyer, Captain of Brian Borus.
On Saturday night last Brian Borus travelled again to New Inn to compete in the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Senior B Championship against Ballymacarbry, Waterford representatives. Brian Borus met stronger opponents on this occasion, losing out to Ballymacarbry on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-8.

Congratulations to Cahir who overcame Ballyduff Upper in the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Intermediate Club Championship Semi Final in Ballyporeen on Saturday last. They will now play Fermoy in the Club Final on the weekend of October 17/18th. Check out www.tipperaryladiesfootball.ie for fixture.

Templemore made the journey to Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town on October 3rd to take on Feohanagh/Castlemahon in the Munster Junior Semi Final. Prior to the game, the Limerick champions were spoken of as formidable opponents and would have been strong favourites in some eyes to progress to the Munster Junior Final. Having been beaten last year in the Limerick County Final by the team that would eventually go on to become All Ireland Junior Champions and having defeated the fancied Kerry County Champions Corca Dhuibhne in the Munster Quarter Final two weeks ago, a team that included Kerry Senior star Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh, Feohanagh/Castlemahon were expected to provide Templemore with their sternest test to date. Quite how stern a test this would be for the Tipperary Champions was very evident for all in attendance to see in the opening minutes.
Played in perfect weather conditions, Feohanagh/Castlemahon set a blistering pace and scored seven points without reply in the opening thirteen minutes. Having been starved of possession in this opening quarter, Templemore had a proverbial mountain to climb. However, they gradually began to adjust to the pace of the game and in the second quarter put increased pressure on the Limerick side's defence and create some scoring opportunities of their own. In the 24th minute, Templemore's opening score came from a free from Miriam Campion. This score seemed to settle Templemore and in the 30th minute Miriam Campion scored another point, this time from play, to leave five points between the sides heading to the half-time break. However, this wasn't to be the last score of the half as perhaps the most vital score of the game occurred in injury time. The Templemore goalkeeper, Katie Bourke, made a fantastic save and within seconds the ball had been moved the length of the field and ended up in the back of the Feohanagh/Castlemahon net. The goal came from Miriam Campion, a player who has developed a habit of scoring important goals at critical stages in games. The half-time score was Feohanagh/Castlemahon 0-07 Templemore 1-02
The Limerick side regrouped during the break and opened the second half scoring with a point in the 33rd minute to further increase their lead, their first score since the 13th minute. However, there was to be no repeat of their early first half dominance as a super individual goal from Elaine Fitzpatrick in the 35th minute left the scores level (0-08 to 2-02). Feohanagh/Castlemahon then scored two points without reply to regain the lead (0-10 to 2-02). In the 48th minute, Niamh Treacy found herself in possession in front of goal and she coolly sent the ball to the back of the Feohanagh/Castlemahon net to put Templemore back into the lead. The Limerick side replied almost instantly with a point to put the sides level again until Niamh Treacy scored a great point in the 50th minute.
Feohanagh/Castlemahon levelled the game again in the 55th minute (3-03 to 0-12). A draw looked to be on the cards until Elaine Fitzpatrick ran from mid-field in the 57th minute to score what would ultimately prove to be the match winning point. Feohanagh/Castlemahon had a number of scoring opportunities in the closing stages and indeed only for a wonderful goal and game saving block down from Maria Curley, they would in all likelihood have progressed to the Munster Final. The final score was Templemore 3-04 Feohanagh/Castlemahon 0-12.
Templemore gave a quintessential team performance, especially in the second half, when heart and determination was required in abundance. When leadership was required they had players all over the field who were willing to take on the responsibility when needed, an amazing feat considering the oldest player on the team has yet to even turn 19 years old. Next up is the Munster Junior Final on the weekend of October 17th/18th in Kilmallock v Bantry Blues from Cork.
