Dual demands a worry for Cahill

Liam Cahill fears the demands being placed on Tipperary's young dual stars could scupper the county's hopes of pulling off an All-Ireland minor hurling and football double.

No fewer than nine players are involved with both panels, with the hurlers having booked their place in the All-Ireland final thanks to a five-point victory over Dublin yesterday. Next Sunday, the footballers will try to emulate them when they face Kildare for a place in the final.

"It's a very healthy position to be in, but the demands on these players are phenomenal," the Tipperary minor hurling boss said.

"It's going to take serious managing over the next three weeks in particular. It's not ideal for eight or nine panel members to come out of a football All-Ireland semi-final, which will be equally as physical as today, if not more, and then be ready for one of the biggest games of their careers a week later.

"It's going to take all parties to sit down and work out a proper schedule for these lads to ensure their energy levels are as high as can be."

Cahill's Dublin counterpart Johnny McGuirk admitted that the better team won.

"They were probably a wee bit sharper with the stick in areas, we fumbled a bit of ball at times, but in fairness to the lads, they didn't lie down and kept battling away.

"We're disappointed. We felt that we had a team good enough to win it," he added.
