Peter Creedon has stepped down as Tipperary senior football manager in the wake of today's 12 point qualifier defeat at the hands of Tyrone.

Shortly after the final whistle in Semple Stadium, the Cork native confirmed that he is quitting the post he has held since taking over from John Evans in 2012.

There were high expectations surrounding the Premier County senior footballers this year but Creedon and his players were unable to build on last year's run to the last 12 of the Sam Maguire Cup race.

They lost out by six points to Kerry in the Munster SFC semi-final (2-8 to 2-14) while last weekend's 23 point hammering of Louth proved to be a false dawn.

Today's second-half collapse against the Red Hands is a disappointing note for Creedon to bow out on.
