Tipperary's sensational defeat of Dublin in today's All-Ireland U21FC semi-final came as no surprise to Steven O'Brien.

The talented midfielder, who kicked two points and provided tremendous leadership in a man of the match display, told TG4: "We always believed in ourselves. We knew we were up against a right challenge today in Dublin.

"The lads dug deep since we beat Cork (in the Munster final). As soon as we finished the Cork game, the lads were ready to take on the Dubs. We believed in ourselves and are delighted to come out on the right side of the result.

"These lads wanted to win so much they weren't going to leave it behind, and it's a credit to them."

Tipp trailed by 0-3 to 0-7 after playing against the wind in the first half, but O'Brien was always confident they would prevail.

"Today we used our heads," he continued.

"In the second half, we got the ball to the shooting areas and got the ball to the lads that can kick the scores. Look, on the day we're thankful they went over."
