Former Tipp ace Eoin Kelly believes the Premier County are in pole position for Division 1 league honours.

The Premier County have claimed the scalps of Kilkenny and Cork in their last two league outings and, speaking to The Irish Independent, the six-time All Star gave his former team-mates every chance of going on and claiming the county's first league success since 2008.

"What Tipp have done is build a winning mentality into both weekends.

"Kilkenny was a big one to win for the younger generation and (for) a new team, it was great for them to get off on a winning start against the Kilkenny boys.

"And the Cork one was massive. To be 12 points down and to come back and win by one ... you can get in all of the sport psychologists in the world but young teams have to go through those situations to really build that inner belief into themselves as individuals and as a team.

"That's what Tipp are doing brilliantly in this league so far."

He continued: "There are a few slippery games along the way but if Tipp can progress and get to a national final, they'll be going all out to win it because these players work so hard even away from the Sundays when you see them playing in the league.

"They're really committed to it and deserve silverware, along with Eamon O'Shea."
