Dinny heads north again

Former Antrim hurling manager Dinny Cahill

Dinny Cahill is facing more gruelling journeys north from his Tipperary base after joining new Derry hurling manager Tom McLean's backroom team.

Cahill had two spells as Antrim manager and will now link up with McLean again, having worked previously with him during his first stint with the Saffrons between 2002 and '05. McLean also has Swatragh's Sean McGuckin on board as assistant manager, Loughgiel Shamrocks' Kieran O'Connell as coach and former Tyrone footballer Eoin Bradley as strength and conditioning coach.

"Dinny brings a wealth of experience in the game and we are delighted to have him on board," McLean told the Derry Journal.

"In recent times he coached Portumna of Galway to two All Ireland club titles, and St Thomas' of Galway to the All Ireland club title in 2012.

"Kieran has been involved with coaching his club Loughgeil Shamrocks during their great run over the past years and comes very highly-rated by his fellow clubmen. He has been involved with Antrim Under 21s and Antrim Senior Camogie at different times. He's a very enthusiastic young coach and we look forward to having him in our set up.

"Eoin worked with Tyrone and Westmeath hurlers. He will be responsible for the fitness of all the players."
