MUNSTER CLUB JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Cappawhite bowed out of the Munster Club Junior Football Championship at the semi-final stage on Sunday last when they lost to Bruff (Limerick) by 1-7 to 1-6. COUNTY UNDER 21 "A" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Templederry Kenyons qualified for the County Under 21 "A" Hurling Championship Final thanks to a 2-16 to 0-9 victory over Knockavilla Kickhams on Sunday last. In the Final scheduled for December 21st, Templederry will play the winners of the match between Thurles Sarsfields and the South champions (Ballingarry or Carrick Swan). COUNTY UNDER 21 "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Kildangan will play Cappawhite in the semi-final of the County Under 21 "B" Hurling Championship on Saturday next at 2:00pm in Dolla. Willie Barrett (Ardfinnan) will be the referee and extra time will be played if necessary. The winners will play Mullinahone in the final on Saturday week, December 13th. COUNTY UNDER 21 "A" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Moyle Rovers will play Aherlow on Saturday next in Cahir at 2:00pm in the second replay of the County Under 21 "A" Football Championship Final. Tommy Ryan (Kildangan) will be the referee and extra time will be played if necessary. MUNSTER SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES The Munster Council have confirmed the dates and venues for the 2009 Munster Senior Hurling and Football Championships. In Senior Hurling, Tipperary will play Cork at Semple Stadium Thurles on Sunday May 31st. The winners will play Clare in the semi-final on Sunday June 21st with the venue being the Gaelic Grounds Limerick if Tipperary defeat Cork. Semple Stadium Thurles will be the venue for a Cork vs. Clare semi-final. The other semi-final between Limerick and Waterford will take place on Sunday June 14th at Semple Stadium. The Munster Senior Hurling Final is fixed for Sunday July 12th. In Senior Football, Tipperary will play Limerick in the first round on Sunday May 24th in Semple Stadium. Cork will play Waterford in Dungarvan on the same day. If Tipperary qualifies for the semi-final, they will play Clare at Semple Stadium on Sunday June 7th. Kerry will play Cork or Waterford in Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney on the same day. The Munster Senior Football Final is fixed for Sunday July 5th. NATIONAL LEAGUE FIXTURES The GAA has confirmed that following a meeting of its Central Council that the fixtures for the Allianz GAA Football and Hurling National Leagues have been confirmed. The Allianz GAA Hurling National League gets underway on Sunday February 8th and Saturday February 14th will see the switching on of the Semple Stadium, Thurles floodlights when Tipperary and Cork clash in Division 1. Semple Stadium will be the venue for all of Tipperary's home matches in the National Hurling League and National Football League. Tipperary have organised a National League double-header on Sunday March 29th with the visit of Louth (Football) and Dublin (Hurling) to Semple Stadium. NATIONAL HURLING LEAGUE FIXTURES Tipperary's full list of fixtures in the National Hurling League are as follows - February 8th vs. Waterford (away), February 14th vs. Cork (home), March 1st vs. Clare (home), March 22nd vs. Kilkenny (away), March 29th vs. Dublin (home), April 5th vs. Galway (away), April 19th vs. Limerick (home). NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE FIXTURES Tipperary's full list of fixtures in the National Football League are as follows - February 1st vs. Down (home), February 15th vs. Cavan (away), March 8th vs. Limerick (away), March 15th vs. Offaly (home), March 22nd vs. Roscommon (away), March 29th vs. Louth (home), April 12th vs. Longford (home). TIPPERARY GAA MEMBERS DRAW 2008/2009 Ho, Ho, Ho - beat the recession blues by coming along to Armshaws Pub Cappawhite at 10:00pm sharp on Friday night to see what Santa has in his bag for the lucky members in the 21st Tipperary GAA Members draw for 2008 / 2009. The draws for both December and January will take place on the night with over ?80,000 in prizes to be won including four cars, cash prizes, holidays, Flat screen TV, Two sets of jersey's and a Lotto Jackpot of ?5,000. Come along and celebrate Donal and Siobhain O'Neill's big win as they will be presented with a cheque of ?12,000 on the night along with ?500 to promoter Paul O'Neill. ?200 will also be presented to Cecilia Walshe promoter of winning jackpot in the November draw. There will also be 10 Tipperary Gold tickets drawn on the night. A great night is guaranteed. THIRD LEVEL COLLEGES The Garda Training College defeated Tipperary Institute / St. Patricks by 3-14 to 1-9 in the Ulster Bank HE Senior Hurling League Division 1 Relegation Final. GAA STRATEGIC VISION AND ACTION PLAN 2009-2015 The GAA recently launched the GAA Strategic Vision and Action Plan 2009 - 2015. The plan is a roadmap for the future to help the Association build and develop participation in Gaelic games and culture. In order to develop this plan, an extensive consultation process took place involving over 8,000 people across the country and abroad. This consultation included: clubs, members, non members, volunteers, officials and players. The Action Plan sets out clear results to be achieved at club, county, provincial and national level over the next seven years and addresses the main challenges facing the Association. Challenges include: increasing participation in urban areas, amongst non traditional and new communities; providing an enhanced playing experience for all our players and improving communications with all our members. The Association identified key projects to bring the GAA forward to 2015. These include: urban initiatives, improving coaching standards in clubs and schools, developing better facilities for our players and members and implementing a more balanced programme of games for our players. The main areas covered in this action plan include - Volunteers, Urbanisation, Games Schedule, Games Development, Communications, Funding Opportunities, Financial Excellence, Inclusion and Integration, Club, Culture and Community, Planning, Officer Support. From a Tipperary perspective, the steering group who acted as advisors during this entire process included Con Hogan (Central Council) and Tim Floyd (County Secretary). The steering committee who worked in focus groups which led to the development of the key focus areas included Ed Donnelly (County PRO), Paudie Butler (Director of Hurling) and Michael O'Brien (former County Secretary). GAA 125TH ANNIVERSARY CALENDAR OF EVENTS The GAA recently launched of a calendar of events which will take place during 2009 to celebrate the establishment of the Association in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on the 1st of November 1884. It is a celebration of 125 years of the GAA and an opportunity to reflect on the past, present and future of the Association and the games. The GAA is at the very heart of the community and events will be held right across the country throughout the year. 2009 provides an opportunity to reflect on what the GAA is all about - the promotion of Gaelic games, Irish culture and a sense of place and identity in each community. The launch of the 125th anniversary celebrations will be held at Croke Park with the start of the Allianz GAA Football National League. The clash of Dublin and Tyrone under lights promises to be an exciting match and the event will include music, entertainment and a lighting and fireworks extravaganza for all the family. A special Late Late show in January will be dedicated to the GAA and its place in Ireland over the last 125 years. The show will feature a broad spectrum of guests from within and outside the Association. As part of St Patricks Festival, the GAA will be the lead pageant in the festival parade in Dublin. The GAA pageant will represent aspects of the GAA such as volunteerism, sport and community. The pageant will later be showcased at Croke Park during the AIB GAA Club finals. April 24th is the GAA 125 Schools Day - this is a chance for schools to participate in a fun day where students will be invited to wear GAA colours and take part in a range of GAA activities. Lá na gClub will take place on 10th May - as the club is at the heart of the GAA, this is an extremely important day in the calendar of events. Over 2,000 GAA clubs around the country are invited to celebrate the Anniversary with games and commemorative events in their local communities. A full calendar of events can be viewed at www.gaa.ie. GAA SEASON TICKET The GAA has launched a reduced price Season Ticket for the 2009 season. This is the first of many planned ticketing packages to be introduced over the coming years as part of the Association's continuing development of ticketing operations. The county and code specific ticket has been designed to meet the unique requirements of the GAA fixtures schedule. The ticket, excellent value at ?75 entitles the supporter to entry to all Allianz GAA National League round games and the first round of the GAA Senior championship involving their county in their chosen code and a discounted price for all subsequent games, excluding Provincial and All-Ireland final. There is an in-built loyalty programme involved in the ticket in that, should the supporter's county in the chosen code, qualify for the All-Ireland final then based on a minimum attendance of 60% the supporter is guaranteed an All-Ireland final ticket. There is a limit of 250 tickets per county per code. GAA MUSEUM CHRISTMAS FAMILY DAY If all you want for Christmas is a new Hurley, make your way along to the GAA Museum on Sunday next December 7th as expert Hurley maker John Torpey is set to give Santa himself some tips on how to produce the perfect Hurley. Torpey will be sharing his knowledge as part of the Museum's Christmas Family Fun Day, a day of festive fun to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. Expect GAA themed carol singers, themed face painting and special family tours of the stadium, among a host of other activities. At the Art Station, young GAA fans will get help preparing special letters for Santa and the GAA Museum Santa Post Office has guaranteed an early delivery to the man himself. Santa will make a special appearance on the day and will greet young GAA fans between 1:30pm and 2:30pm following his Hurley making demo with John Torpey. With special "Tall Tale" tours of the stadium, the Armagh Rhymers entertaining with fairy tales and mince pies and hot chocolate to keep you warm, the GAA Museum Christmas Family day is the ideal way to start of your Christmas season.
