Swans suffer relegation blues

November 07, 2008
JK Brackens retained their senior football status with a 1-16 to 1-10 victory over Carrick Swans in last Saturday's relegation decider at Fethard. Carrick's hopes of survival were not helped by the fact that they could only muster 12 players at the start of the game. Mentor Seamus Walsh was forced to don a jersey and manned the full forward line on his own as Carrick played the entire first half with 13 players, at the end of which they trailed 1-4 to 1-9. Another mentor William Hahessy, along with Wayne Cullen, ensured they had a full compliment for the start of the second half, and the losers proceeded to give as good as they got to trail by just four points with five minutes remaining. However, late scores from Shane Scully and Sean Collum made sure of the win for Brackens.
