Freeman's garden hurling marathon takes place today!

April 05, 2020

Mayo's Cathal Freeman

Cathal Freeman is spending his Sunday running a 42km marathon "on a patch of grass" in his back garden and (if that wasn't difficult enough), he also runs the entire race while soloing a sliotar on his hurl!

The Tooreen and Mayo star is taking on this remarkable challenge to raise vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society and also to buy PPE for HSE staff in a time of crisis.

Anyone wishing to donate to Cathal's garden hurling marathon fundraiser can do so at: https://ie.gofundme.com/f/marathon-while-soloing-a-sliothar€13,622 of a goal of €20,000 has been raised in just 4 days.

Meanwhile, Mayo GAA will be live streaming Cathal's run on Facebook.

Good luck Cathal!

UPDATE: Cathal completed the 42km marathon (over 26 miles) in just over seven hours and the fund has far exceeded its goal, reaching €38,009 at 7.30pm.
