Liam Sheedy took encouragement from the performances of rookies such as Jerome Cahill, Craig Morgan and Paddy Cadell in yesterday's MHL first round defeat to Clare.

"It's about getting new guys on the pitch," the Tipperary manager told the Irish Independent after his side's first competitive outing since August's All-Ireland SHC final victory over Kilkenny.

"The reality is we will need new faces to feature in 2020 and I saw some really encouraging signs in terms of the lads that put their hands up.

"We feel that our performances have a little bit more to go, we know that if we're going to be competitive in 2020, we've got to find a new level. We have loads to work on."
