Injured Tipp duo expected to miss final

Liam Sheedy says it's "highly unlikely" that Cathal Barrett and Patrick 'Bonner' Maher will be fit for Tipperary's Munster SHC final showdown with Limerick in 13 days' time.

The pair were forced to retire with ankle and knee injuries respectively during the first half of Tipp's 1-22 to 0-21 victory over the All-Ireland champions yesterday, with some fearing that Maher may have suffered cruciate ligament damage.

“At this stage I would say it’s highly unlikely they’ll make the Munster final. With any type of strain it will take longer than a week or two I would imagine," the Tipperary manager said.

“But that’s the nature of the game, there’s always a danger that someone gets a knock and that’s why we have a panel so we called on our panel today and they responded.”

The win rounded off a perfect round-robin series for Tipp, though Sheedy wasn't reading too much into their latest success.

“To come out with a victory is very pleasing and it means we have concluded the league stage of this championship and we find ourselves in a Munster final," he continued.

"Limerick were missing a good few of their key players today, so I don't think anyone will read too much into what we saw. All we focused on was ourselves and getting into a Munster final."
