Luckless Tipperary defender Michael Cahill has suffered another huge injury setback.

The Thurles Sarsfields clubman sustained a torn cruciate ligament in a county SHC semi-final last October but had made remarkable progress following surgery and was on the verge of a competitive return.

However, according to The Tipperary Star, the two-times All-Ireland winning defender and 2011 All Star required further surgery after an accidental collision at training last week left him with a broken and badly damaged kneecap.

Liam Sheedy was already planning without Cahill for the summer and the odds would now appear to be stacked against the 30-year-old being available to his club in 2019.
