Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy believes that Seamus Callanan was an obvious choice to captain the Premier County this year.

Callanan was in sparkling form as Tipp opened their NHL 1A campaign with a comfortable win over Clare last Saturday evening.

The Drom-Inch clubman scored 2-07 (0-06 from frees) but his work rate throughout the game was exemplary and Sheedy told the Midland Tribune that they expect to see the best of him this year.

“Seamus is an outstanding leader,” said Sheedy. “He had a tough enough journey last year with his back injury. He is a guy who really does lead the line.

“We do need leaders up front and Seamus provides that. It’s not about captains. There is a really good group of leaders there and twenty one of them showed leadership against Clare.”
