Dublin hurling stalwart Ryan O'Dwyer has brought the curtain down on his inter-county career.

The Tipperary native confirmed in a wide-ranging interview with the Herald that he has donned the sky blue jersey for the last time.

A Leinster SHC and league winner with the Dubs, he said: "Even though we've had some bad times, the good times overshadow all of them."

After missing out on the Premier County's 2010 All-Ireland win, O'Dwyer transferred to Kilmacud Crokes and switched his inter-county allegiance to the capital.

The 31-year-old played a key role in 2013 when the Anthony Daly managed Dubs bridged a 52-year gap to their last provincial success. They also claimed Allianz HL Division 1 honours in 2011.

Two years later he suffered a serious brain injury in an unprovoked attack in Birmingham but returned to the playing field.

"I always said that some f****r that I've never seen before over in Birmingham, he's not going to get the better of me. It was just a stubbornness."

He slipped down the pecking order under new manager Pat Gilroy this year and informed his team-mates of his decision following their Leinster SHC defeat at the hands of Galway last month.
