Tipp release challenge schedule

January 05, 2018

Happy Tipp fans after the All Ireland SHC semi final win over Galway in Croke Park.

Both Tipperary hurlers and footballers will play a series of challenge matches over the coming weeks.

Having withdrawn from the Munster SHL and the McGrath Cup, the Tipperary senior hurlers and footballers will be relying on challenge matches to get up to match fitness ahead of the start of the leagues at the end of the month.

Already, the Premier hurlers have been in action as they took on Slaughtneil last weekend. Michael Ryan opted to put out an experimental side which still managed a 1-23 to 3-08 win over the Derry and Ulster champions.

Last night, the Tipp footballers took on Cork IT at Dr Morris Park, Thurles where they beat the students by 2-17 to 2-08, while next Tuesday (January 9th), they host the Garda College at the same venue.

A week later (January 16th), they host UCC, a game which will also be played at Dr Morris Park and this will be their last challenge match before the start of the NFL, which begins with an away clash against Cork on Saturday, January 27th.

Meanwhile, the Tipp hurlers take on Dublin at Dr Morris Park on Saturday, January 6th (12 noon) before taking on Galway champions Liam Mellows in Lorrha on Saturday, January 13th (2pm).

They then begin their NHL campaign with a clash away to Clare on Sunday, January 28th at 2pm.
