Drumcliffe/Rosses club notes

April 24, 2017

Big congratulations to the Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers who, for the fourth consecutive year, have qualified for the All-Ireland Féile na nGael national finals later this year after victory in the Sligo Féile finals in Scarden on Sunday. The team enjoyed victories over Castleconnor, Naomh Eoin and Tourlestrane with the experience of a number of our players who've competed in previous years, standing to us. Féile na nGael 2017 takes place in Wexford from June 16-18th. Our congrats to all the U14 players and management involved. For now, it's back to the bread and butter of the league this Thursday evening when we host Naomh Eoin in Oxfield at 7 o'clock.

Our senior men's footballers were unable to match that success on Sunday as they suffered their second defeat in Division 1, going down narrowly at home to Shamrock Gaels by 1-10 to 0-11. We led for most of the game but the concession of a penalty in the closing quarter proved crucial. Next up is a trip to Cloonacool on Saturday evening to play Coolaney/Mullinabreena at 7pm.

The ladies intermediate footballers continued their winning start to Division 2 with a fine 5-12 to 2-12 success over Shamrock Gaels in Riverstown. Amanda Healy was one of several stars of the show with a personal contribution of 4-4. Eastern Harps are the visitors to Oxfield this Sunday morning at 10am.

Scorecards for our New York v Sligo Championship Score Forecast competition are currently being distributed to club members. Correctly predict the final score (after normal time) from Gaelic Park on May 7th to win a €100 Davis's Restaurant voucher. Entry costs just €2 or a card of six guesses is €10. Our thanks Michael Kilcoyne for his generous support in helping to make this fundraiser happen. Full competition info and rules ondrp.gaa.ie. Call Michael 0876755753 or Austin 0876855621.

The boys minor footballers were well beaten by Castleconnor in their opening Division 3 league game last Tuesday. Their next opponents are St John's in Oxfield this Wednesday evening with a 7pm throw-in.

Our girls U16 footballers are at home to St Farnan's in the league this Tuesday evening 25th. The boys U16 footballers are also in action this week, away to Easkey. The U16 hurlers continue their league campaign on bank holiday Monday  May 1st with an away game against Tubbercurry/Cloonacool.

Our girls U14 footballers contested a very enjoyable U14 Féile competition in Oxfield last Saturday. They didn't qualify for the knockout stages but this young team will learn a lot from the experience. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped ensure the event ran smoothly. The previous Tuesday, the U14s put up a spirited display in the league before narrowly going down to Shamrock Gaels by 2-7 to 1-7.

Hard luck to our boys U14 footballers who were beaten 3-12 to 1-5 by St Mary's last Friday evening at Kent Park. The girls U12 team had an impressive win against the same opposition in Oxfield the same evening.

The U12 hurlers have a home match v Tourlestrane in Oxfield on Tuesday, May 2nd at 7pm. They enjoyed a 5 its to 2 win against Coolera/Strandhill last Tuesday.

Our nursery U8 and U10 footballers travel to Ransboro this Wednesday evening for a fun blitz with the home club, starting at 7pm. Contact the U8/U10 coaches for info.
