Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

August 15, 2016

We congratulate club player Michelle McNamara and the Sligo ladies football team on their  victory over Wexford last Sunday which sets up a first-ever All-Ireland intermediate football semi-final appearance for the Yeats County, against Kildare in two weeks time.

For the second consecutive year, our senior men's footballers will face a relegation play-off to preserve their senior championship status for next year. The team were descively beaten by holders St Mary's last Sunday in their concluding Group 1 match on a final scoreline of 5-12 to 0-6. They now face a relegation play-off against Calry/St Joseph's. The winners will be safe. The losers will get a second chance against Easkey in the relegation final.

A strong second-half display by our boys U14 footballers secured a comprehensive 3-15 to 1-3 win over St Michael's at Oxfield last Friday evening in the A2 championship. This victory sets up a final meeting with Calry/St Joseph's.

Hard luck to our Benbulben Gaels U16 hurlers who were narrowly beaten by Naomh Eoin in the championship on Monday evening on a final scoreline of 3-8 to 3-5. After their memorable win over Easkey/St Farnan's two weeks ago, the U14 hurlers face Naomh Eoin in the championship on Thursday evening at Kent Park with a 7pm start.

Our boys U12 Division 3 footballers play neighbours St Molaise Gaels in the league final this Tuesday evening at Markievicz Park. Throw-in: 7:45pm.

We're finalising preparations for the club's Big Family BBQ at Oxfield on Saturday week, Aug 27th, from 4-7pm. Apart from the tasty food, this fun-filled three hours will include exhibition games and activities for every age group, from nursery U6 up to the Over 40s. All are welcome. Free admission.
