Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

August 31, 2015

As was the case in the corresponding clash last month, our senior men's team suffered an eight-point loss toTourlestrane in the Belfry senior club championship last Sunday - this time in Oxfield. The final scoreline of 1-17 to 1-9 means our final group game away to Eastern Harps in two weeks time will decide who will join Tourlestrane from Group 3 in the knockout stages. We trailed 0-12 to 0-4 at half-time. Despite showing signs of a revival in the second-half, Tourlestrane's firepower up front throughout the hour was the key to their win. The immediate attention now switches to our final league of the season against Calry/St Joseph's in Hazelwood this Saturday evening. The loser of this match faces relegation from Division 1. Throw-in is at 6.30pm and your support would be appreciated.

Team and scorers last Sunday: Justin Lyons, Jude McGarry, Dara Long, Ciaran McLoughlin, John Harvey, Neil Ewing (C), Seán Peyton, Conor Davey, Brian ÓgMurphy, Gary Feeney, Niall Collery (0-1), Kevin Davey, Paul Logan (1-5), Alan O'Dowd (0-2), John Bellew. Subs used: John McGowan, Eoin Gaughan (0-1), Cian Lally, Seán Power, Paddy Gormley.

A gutsy display by our intermediate ladies footballers against St Mary's in the championship fell just short at Kent Park last Sunday morning on a final scoreline 6-8 to 4-8. The girls were 14 points down at half-time but produced a stirring second-half comeback which, at one stage, saw the St Mary's lead cut to a single point. Two late goals helped the home side secure victory in the end but the DRP ladies now have a county quarter-final to look forward to against Curry on Wednesday evening. Check our facebook page for time and venue details. Team last Sunday: Rachel Oates, Joan Brennan, Aimee Oates, Shirley Nicholson, Orlaith Furey, Michelle McNamara, Avril Clancy, Rachel Monaghan, Ciara Redmond, Ciara Goonan, Amanda Healy, Sinéad Regan, Roisín Healy, Denise Regan.Tracy O'Boyle. Subs: Mary O'Hara, Emily McCormack, Lisa McLoughlin, Keeley Greene, Jayne McCormack.

Well done to the U14 girls who recorded their second win in the championship against Eoghan Rua last week on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-2. This follows an excellent victory over St Molaise Gaels by 14 points to 2. We wish the team continued success for the remainder of the campaign.

The club's two county minor footballers, Seán Power and Cian Lally, were presented with their Connacht minor league winners medals at a special ceremony for the Sligo team in the Southern Hotel last Friday night. Our congratulations to both players. Seán and Cian will both be part of the our minor panel which contests a club championship play-off against Bunninadden/St Michael's at Oxfield this Thursday evening. Throw-in: 7pm.

Well done to four of the club's U16 hurlers,  Cian, James, John and Oisín, who represented Sligo in the All-Ireland competition in Sligo last weekend. Sligo reached the semi-finals of the Cup competition.

Several of our U14 hurling panel also represented Sligo in the U14 All-Ireland B competition in Cavan. The team was captained by our own Patrick O'Connor, and won the Shield competition. Congrats also to Blaine, Callum, Eoghan, Killian, Padraic, Patrick, Ryan, Senan and Tola.

We wish our younger underage players all the best this week as they start/return to school. A reminder that the club's weekly Saturday morning GAA nursery continues in Oxfield. U6 training begins at 9:45 sharp. U8 and U10 at 10:30. New players are always very welcome.
