Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club notes

May 11, 2015

Drumcliffe Rosses Point footballers Orla McGowan & Rachel Monaghan, who were part of the Sligo ladies panel which won the Tesco Homegrown Division 3 league title last Saturday at Parnell Park.

Pride of place this week goes to Orla McGowan, Rachel Monaghan and the Sligo ladies gaelic football team who came from 8 points down at one stage to beat Waterford 2-12 to 2-8 and claim the Division 3 league title in Parnell Park last Saturday. It was a great achievement for the team and manager Paddy Henry. Highlights of the match will be shown on TG4 during the week.
Our senior men's team had no match at the weekend as the county side played Fermanagh in a challenge game. We're away to Tubbercurry in the Furey's Coaches Div 1 on Friday evening.

Also this Friday, the club is holding a table quiz in Austie's, Restaurant at 9.30pm. The proceeds from the quiz will go towards the minor panel. The minors completed their league campaign last Thursday with a 3-13 to 1-10 loss against St Michael's, and now begin preparations for the championship later in the summer. Your support on Friday evening would be greatly appreciated.

Well done to the U14 girls team who had a good win over neighbours St Molaise Gaels in the league on Friday.

The U12 boys had two good wins over Tourlestrane last Tuesday in the A & D leagues's Well done to all involved. Next up is Melvin Gaels on Sunday in Oxfield in a friendly. Throw-in is 6pm.

Hard luck to the Drumcliffe U10 Community Games team who were beaten by Coolera by a single point after extra-time in what was a very entertaining match. Best of luck to Rosses Point against Castleconnor on Thursday.

The U16 hurlers were narrowly beaten by Tubbercurry in the semi-final of the Shield while the U14s were comprehensively beaten by an impressive Easkey side in the league.

Tickets are now on sale for the club's new Super Lotto Draw. This is one of the key fundraisers for 2015. The new lotto format will see 11 monthly draws, starting in June. So, there'll be more chances to win. Ticket prices are €50, which covers all draws and puts you in the hat for the All-Ireland football final ticket draw in September. Please contact club treasurer Ger Carroll on 087 3512685 for tickets and distribution details.

We're moving the GAA Nursery this Saturday morning (16th) to Rosses Point. U6 training will take place on on the pitch at Scoil Réalt na Mara in Rosses Point at 9:45am. U8 & U10 at 10:30am. Our thanks to Principal Dearbhla Gill and the staff of the school for making their pitch facilities available to the club.
