What they said ... the weekend in quotes

Waterford manager Tom McGlinchey speaks to the press at the end of the game. INPHO

"It is hard for them to get up and get going against the likes of Mayo and Galway. The boys were a little bit nervous going out. That happens when you are not used to winning silverware."

The Rossies are developing a winning habit under John Evans.

"It's like a lot of competitions, you enter it and the more you go on in it, you want to win it. They wanted to win because if they put in a bad performance, after beating Cork, everything would have blown up on us."

Tom McGlinchey has enjoyed a dream start to his tenure as Waterford senior football manager.

"It's dislocated and maybe even broken. Injuries are awful hard this time of year. Guys are coming back from one injury and going into another one."

Joe Canning's finger injury is a big blow to Anthony Cunningham and Galway.

"I'm very disappointed. Today was a day where you would want to be showing the work that you have been putting in. It was a disappointing 70 minutes."

It's back to the drawing board for Brian Whelahan and his Offaly outfit.

"It was a bit of a shock to the system in the first half. We haven't faced anything like that intensity since Monaghan last summer."

Dublin provided Jason Ryan and Kildare's players with plenty of food for thought.

"I don't think either of us would be happy. Jason and I had a quick chat at the final whistle, and we both said 'that's not ideal for next week, to be honest'."

Jim Gavin would have preferred if Dublin had have finished off the job in normal time.

"If you're not focussed against them they could punish you. But we were definitely the better side today. Twenty eight points proves it, I think."

Antrim were no match for Ger Cunningham and Dublin's hurlers in the Walsh Cup.

"That was disappointing considering we took so many good scores in the first half. Whether it's the fear factor or what, we created chances and we gave away the ball in the second half, it wasn't that we weren't getting the attacks on  - we probably just didn't believe in ourselves to push it on. That's something we have to work on going forward."

Cavan's failure to register a score in the second-half of Saturday night's McKenna Cup final was a source of disappointment for Terry Hyland.

"People have to be patient, the inside forwards have to be patient, the players on the ball have to be patient, and you have to use the width of the pitch rather than the centre."

Mickey Harte revealed how the Red Hands broke down the Breffni County's defensive system.

"They've shown a great application and a fabulous attitude, we're very pleased."

Cork selector Seanie McGrath was fulsome in his praise of their players after they claimed Clare's scalp in the Waterford Crystal Cup.

"We deliberately didn't change the team at half-time, we wanted to give them a chance to redeem themselves and they made a reasonable effort of that. We finished nine points down instead of 12, for all that's worth!"

Clare selector Michael Browne focussed on the positives!
