Already assured of a place in next weekend's final against Roscommon, Galway continued their impressive early season form with a 1-13 to 0-5 win over GMIT at Moycullen.

With midfielder Tomas Flynn running the show, Kevin Walsh's new charges scored eight points without reply before GMIT sub Alan Meenaghan eventually got the students off the mark. That left it 0-8 to 0-1 in Galway's favour at half-time.

Another sub, Patrick Sweeney, wrapped up the win for the Tribesmen with the game's only goal six minutes after the restart.

At Markievicz Park, Adrian Marren's goal nine minutes from time proved decisive as Sligo defeated holders Leitrim on a 2-9 to 1-10 scoreline. The sides were level on 0-5 apiece at the break before Pat Hughes and Ronan Kennedy traded early second half goals to tie it up at 1-6 each.

But Marren's strike decided it.

The other Connacht FBD League tie between third level sides NUIG and IT Sligo finished in a 0-8 apiece draw.
