Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

July 16, 2019

It was a week to remember for several of our girls club footballers who were part of the Yeats United team which won the San Marino Cup last week. We extend our congratulations to the players and coach Brian Chambers on a fantastic achievement. Well done to the 'players' player of the tournament, Ruth Flanagan, Izzy Henry, Katie Maguire, Rianne Smith and all the players involved. There is a special homecoming event for the Yeats United girls this Tuesday evening, July 16th, in Batty’s of Carney at 7pm. All are welcome.

Well done to our club players in involved in the Sligo women’s gaelic footballers 4-24 to 4-5 win against Down in their opening match of the All-Ireland qualifiers series last weekend in Burren.

A special mention too for our club players involved with the Sligo under 16 girls team who beat Clare last Wednesday in Ballinasloe to qualify for the All-Ireland under 16 ‘C’ final.

Our women’s football team are going well in the Connacht Gold Sligo LFGA intermediate club championship. They currently lead the round robin series with 10 points from their first four games (3 points for a win). Their final group match is scheduled for August 11th away to CT Gael at 10:30am.

Our girls minor footballers begin their ‘A’ championship campaign this Wednesday evening in Oxfield against Shamrock Gaels. Throw-in is at 7pm.

Our senior men’s footballers completed their Division 2 league campaign last Sunday with a 2-17 to 2-9 win away to St Pat’s. The team has narrowly missed out on promotion and now prepares for the start of the senior club championship on the weekend of July 27/28th against Eastern Harps. We are in a five-team group along with Coolera/Strandhill, Coolaney/Mullinabreena and Calry/St Joseph’s. The top four teams will qualify for the quarter-finals from this group.

Oxfield is hosting the 2019Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp all this week for girls and boys aged 6-13 years.

Saturday morning nursery coaching in Rathcormac is taking a short summer break - and will resume towards the end of August.

Our thanks to the county’s main GAA sponsors AbbVie who provided DRP with a set of branded footballs at a donation event earlier this week.Every club in the county is receiving the footballs as part of AbbVie’s extension to its Sligo GAA sponsorship arrangement.

Best wishes to Benbulben Gaels under 14 hurlers who play Naomh Eoin this Wednesday evening in Scarden in the county under 14 hurling league final at 7pm. The team would appreciate big club support for this game.

The under 16 hurlers had a fine 3-16 to 4-3 win against Tourlestrane in the championship on Monday evening.

Our boys minor footballers play Coolaney/Mullinabreena in the ‘B’ league shield final this Saturday at 5pm in Scarden. They reached the final after a good 2-19 to 2-11 win against Geevagh/St Michael’s last week.

Good luck also to the boys under 14 footballers who play Easkey/St Farnan’s in the championship at St Farnan’s community park this Friday evening at 7pm.
