Connacht SFC: Tribe through to final

John Daly of Galway is out on front of Sligo's Paul Kilcoyne

Holders Galway qualified for the Connacht football final when beating Sligo by 3-11 to 0-7 at Markievicz Park.

A couple of points from corner back Liam Silke were the difference between the teams at the break as the winners led by 0-5 to 0-3, Fiontan O’Curraoin, Shane Walsh and Michael Daly Galway's only other first-half scorers.

Continuing where they had left off against London, Kevin Walsh's charges had failed to impress in the early stages but quickfire goals from Silke and Johnny Heaney in the 43rd and 44th minutes saw them pull clear early in the second half - 2-7 to 0-4.

The Yeats County landed the next three scores through Niall Murphy (2) and Sean Carrabine and it wasn't until the 57th minute that Galway registered again, Walsh's point coming from a free.

Sean Andy O Ceallaigh was sent off for a second yellow-card offence on the stroke of full time and substitute Martin Farragher netted the third goal in injury time for the Tribesmen, who will take on either Mayo or Roscommon in the Connacht final.
