Dessie Sloyan says Easkey's Connacht club JFC final victory over Clonbur has given Sligo football a major boost.

Ryan McKenna scored a late winning point in Quigabar on Saturday as Sloyan's charges brought a long overdue provincial title to the Yeats County.

"I think it's a fantastic achievement, not just for this club but for Sligo football," the former county star told the Western People.

"Our roots go deep and we're very proud of that blue jersey any day we wear it. I tell the lads when they go out, not alone are we representing ourselves, we're representing our club and our county.

"It was important that a Mayo team or a Galway team didn't come down to our home turf and beat us."
