Will Sigerson Cup impact on re-arranged league fixtures?

February 11, 2018

Ryan McAnespie (UUJ and Monaghan) and Jack Barry (UCD and Kerry) could potentially play three games in five days between college and county.

Next Saturday's Sigerson Cup final could pose a problem for the GAA's fixture-makers when they sit down tomorrow to decide the new dates for the Allianz football league games that were postponed this weekend.

Monaghan v Kerry, Cavan v Meath, Derry v Offaly and Sligo v Fermanagh all fell victim to the inclement weather and the CCCC must now decide where they will fit a schedule that offers little in the way of wriggle room.

The Sigerson Cup semi-finals, featuring UUJ v UCD and DIT v NUIG, are due to be played on Wednesday evening with the final scheduled for Santry next Saturday at 3.30pm.

Depending on results, some players could face the prospect of having to play three games in five days.

Meath, meanwhile, are fixed to face neighbours Westmeath in the re-arranged O'Byrne Cup final on Sunday at Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Meanwhile, former Kerry goalkeeper Brendan Kealy - who is currently a member of the Offaly football backroom team - took to twitter to vent his frustration after the Faithful County's game against Derry was called off at the last minute.
