Great heart and determination from Roscommon U-21's

The 06 minor crop is coming through. There is definately an AI in this squad. People who said that Roscommon should quit football can now bury their heads in the sand. They might be going to D4 in the league but they can build on the u21 success by bouncing back to d3. There will be a great buzz in Roscommon next year.

Great heart and determination from Roscommon U-21's
Great win yesterday. We really needed that.Firstly the negatives. We were very slow out of the blocks. If we start the final as slowly as that Sligo will bate us out the gate.Collins was very poor at full-back I thought. Some of the forwards in particular Murtagh and O'Hara(b4 been sent off) were largely anonymous, although Murtagh took his goal well.Higgins played well in the middle but Niall Carty was non-existant.We are very limited from the bench.
We could do with Colm O'Neill back for the final.
The good stuff.Tremendous heart and determination took us over the line.We were very poor in the first half until we got the goal. After the first goal we seemed to believe we could do it.I felt goin in that we had a real chance but to stand up and win it coming from behind and with 14 men for the entire second half was admirable.6 of the starting 15 are underage again next year.Shines point was worthy of winning any game, against the breeze as well.Kilroy is lightning quick and his pace and movement kept Mayo on the back foot. They did'nt seem to know what to do with the extra man.I thought the Greyhound had a great game at Centre hb.He had his hands full with O'Shea but he did as well as anyone would have.
The final will be in Sligo 2 weeks form Saturday, god knows we could do with a Connacht title, but it will be extremely tough down there.Lookin forward to it.
The winners play Dublin or Westmeath in an AI semi final.

GET on the rossies!
Great game today and a nail biting finish! Rushes faith back into us that even though our seniors are not cutting it, that our younger teams are!
and with 14 men for most of the second half, it was great to see them not giving up hope and dying on the pitch!

well done to today, very dissapointed after the result, we never made the extra man count and roscommon never gave up, and an awsomne point to win it.
the reason i write here is the heading of this thread - quit football? ya right, there always a chink of light and with players of shines ability the future may not be so bleak. good luck -i hope ye win the all ireland now

Good Start for the Hurlers
i think the Connacht Minor and U21 hurling championships should be brought back just without Galway it would give the likes of Roscommon and Mayo something to play for and at the end of the day the best way to get young players interested is if there a chance for winning some silverware

Thats a typical reply from a so called big hurling county... Galway with > 20 senior teams have no senior AL since the 80's...

588702 It takes 3 years to build a team, so lets not be hasty with judging Fergie. Whether it be Div 4 as very likely next year and after the AI Finals then will be the time to take stock. We've been within 2 points of the top two teams in Div 3 and took an emerging Mayo team within 4 points in the FBD, so just need to wrap Shine in cotton-wool for the next 18 months and take his passport from him?
"It takes three years to build a team" when did this building start. Taking positives by only losing by a couple of points at the start of the season is false economy. Those teams will improve as the season goes on. Roscommon are going nowhere this season I feel.
It is also wrong to hold young Shine back. If he wants to develope himself and play at the top he should be let do so. It must be frustrating for him at the moment given the raves about him he must be a fine footballer.

Didn't give Maughan 3 years got rid of him to quick, need to build from u21s. Can win 2 games in Championship and at least 4 league games next year. Games against Killkenny and London are gimmies so should win 2 more against poor teams. Losing to good qualty teams in div 3 now. Not much differance between div 1 and div3 teams only a kick of a ball.

surely enda kenny from castlerea should be getting his chance at midfield, he has been there in a successful castlerea team, surely it is time to give him the chance to play in the middle of the field in a roscommon jersey

Have to say that it will be an uphill task to avoid the drop this year. The downside to relegation and not winning a match in the division is going into the championship with a lack of morale. The upside to it, is all the local derbies the ros will play next year in d4. These local rivalries wiull help the players development and will be valuable experience and of course there is the gates these clashes will receive. A welcome boost to the coffers in these recessionary times.
