Congratulations to the U 12 players and mentors on an excellent performance in Fuerty on Saturday last beating Clan na ngael on a scoreline of 3-07 to 2-09. The team got off to great start getting the opening score, we then went on to trade scores throughout a closely contested first half. At half time we were 2 points clear, but a determined Clann effort at the start of the second half saw this advantage disappear. 10 minutes into the second half it was not looking good as we were outplayed in most positions. However goals win games and an excellent team goal followed by a quick point put us 2 clear again. From there to the finish we were the better team and continued to build on the lead. However Clann lads dug deep hung in there and steadily reduced the lead, scoring a goal in injury time leaving the minimum between the teams. Despite all their pressure they could not get an equalizer, due in no small part to the crisp tackling and defending by our lads. This may be the first time in the club that a title has been successfully defended. Congratulations all round, to both teams, for the quality of the football, the execution of the skills and the spirit in which the game was played. The panel on the day was: Sean Thompson, Padraig Kelly, Michael Hoey, Jordan Kennedy, Cormac Mulry, James Mannion, David Gacquin, Conor Dolan, Michael Lohan, Johnny Meares, Jimmy Hoey, Liam Og Coyle, Sean Hynes, Oisin Gately, Ben Kelly, Siafra Finneran, Sinead Scott, Eoin Kelly, David Gately, Ciaran Keane and Oisin Flynn.
The team enjoyed a great tour of the parish with the trophy, thanks to all for the fires and good wishes. They had a great reception back at the clubhouse, well deserved for their efforts. Well done to PJ Hoey and David Thompson for their guidance to the team throughout the year. All at the club are very proud of this team for their tremendous achievment. Our Junior team drew with Elphin on a scoreline of 1-09 apiece of Saturday evening. The result was enough to see them into the county quarter final. Well done to all involved best of luck in the quarterfinal.
