McStay the man for Roscommon?

Has the time finally come for Kevin McStay to take charge of a senior inter-county team?

Controversially overlooked for the Mayo job last year, the RTE pundit is the man most Roscommon supporters want to see installed as John Evans' successor. Living in Roscommon town for many years, McStay previously managed the county at minor level and also memorably guided St. Brigid's to All-Ireland club glory in 2013. With Liam McHale uncertain about his future as Cavan forwards coach, the time could be right for the brothers-in-law to work together again.

The Roscommon executive had recommended Evans for another term ahead of last night's county board meeting, but the Killorglin man decided to step down after learning the clubs were set to oppose him.

A committee will be formed next week to begin the search for the new manager, with an appointment expected at the September county board meeting in four weeks' time.
